• Led and contributed to a wide variety of early-stage translational research projects leveraging microfluidic technologies in research and diagnostic applications, including cancer cell isolation and analysis.• Invented, optimized, and patented extremely high sensitivity magnetic cell sorting devices (20-fold improvement) for positive and negative selection of circulating tumor cells from blood as part of a $35M joint development partnership with Johnson & Johnson and played a critical role in achieving program milestones.• Directed a collaborative project to design and implement a droplet-based single-cell analysis platform encompassing cell encapsulation, RT-PCR, and multi-color laser interrogation and sorting.• Invented, optimized, and patented ultra-high throughput microfluidic technologies for high performance sized-based cell sorting (~1 micron resolution) and concentration (up to 400-fold), which were subsequently spun out for commercialization by MicroMedicine.• Recruited and managed team of engineers focused on microfluidic device fabrication and evaluation.• Created algorithmic CAD design generation tools to enable rapid generation and screening of dozens of design variants.• Oversaw outsourced device manufacturing and transition from prototype fabrication techniques to highly scalable, injection molding-based manufacturing.

• Developed cell- and tissue-level computational models of electroporation and concomitant molecular transport that yielded new insights into the mechanisms of electroporation and became the foundation of all subsequent research in the Weaver Research Group.• Explored mechanisms and effects of supra-electroporation, in which sub-microsecond, megavolt-per-meter electric field pulses cause widespread electroporation of plasma and organelle membranes and induce apoptosis.• Investigated how electroporation may be optimally used in therapies for cancer and other diseases through the use of high throughput in silico experiments.

• Developed novel computational model of electroporation capable of simulating the complex dynamics and interactions of the large electropores required for gene delivery.• Published research in Physical Review E and Biophysical Journal (first author) and received the Helmholtz Award for the best biomedical engineering research project.
