Every 2 weeks on a Tuesday, I publish a quirky overview of higher ed news, digital marketing and tech. Each letter also contains analysis of a university marketing initiatives, as well as take on how emerging trends are set to impact higher education.

What a company. In the 10 months I spent at Unibuddy I lead on SEO and subscriber growth.I started The Chat, a fortnightly newsletter for US higher ed professionals who want to know what works with community marketing - growing subscribers to over 2,000 within 16 editions.

I was responsible for Nottingham Trent University's website and digital ops during peak pandemic. In short, it was a character-defining role.My remit included web development, digital campaigns and content design.Fun fact: It was here that I decided to start Education Marketer.

A side ways step from general marketing management to a hybrid digital and creative role. It was a rare opportunity to combine my interest in content creation, marketing campaign management and digital.- Created organisation’s first university-wide customer conversion journey, delivering multi-channel content creation for email marketing, social media and print publications.- Managed marketing campaigns and improvement of student conversion journey resulting in 20% increase in undergraduate applications year-on-year.- Launched international 360 virtual open day and live chat experience, attracting prospects from India, Nigeria and other countries.- Led on content creation for key publications, including University prospectus, as well as facilitating Tone of Voice workshops for front line / student communications staff.

I was promoted to Marketing Manager with responsibility for Business School portfolio, as well as being strategic marketing lead for degree apprenticeships.- Created and delivered marketing strategy for lead nurture and conversion across business portfolio- Launched international summer school, building relationships and overseeing marketing activities for global university partners- Managed repositioning and successful recruitment to MBA programmes through new brand partnerships and international marketing channels- Led on first organisation-wide, coordinated campaign for recruitment to degree apprenticeships

- Responsible for campaign management, content creation and SEO for Aston University- Managed launch of University app and integration with legacy systems- Creating content for key areas of website and University apps- Developing and implementing SEO strategy for University Schools and departments- Supporting web strategy for digital campaigns and projects- Producing graphics for display media, advertising and social media

After my work in the arts, I wanted some agency side experience and Copybook provided. Responsible for content creation, campaign management and SEO, I ran marketing activity for international clients. The typical day included:- Creating digital campaigns and promotional materials for clients in a variety of sectors- Sourcing, editing and presenting industry specific news & features- Overseeing social media engagement and development- Digital media and promotional video production- Leading on SEO strategy and content marketing for new products and services

My first digital marketing role and where I learned to cut my teeth. Just out of university, I supported the marketing activities of a performance poetry organisation. Essentially, I got the building blocks of tactical marketing:- Email marketing using MailChimp- Compiled three promotional videos, editing footage from Battersea Arts Centre and Birmingham REP- Aided in the logistics and administration of spoken word events nationally- CMS related activities, including publishing and editing content online

As an English grad fresh out of uni, I thought a good start would be to work for a literature organisation. My experience at Tilt was a proving ground for my work in marketing.Being fresh to the world of work must have given me some sense of invincibility, because I helped produce spoken word shows at major venues including Kings Place and the Southbank Centre. Pretty terrifying stuff now that I think about it. I also supported a range of marketing activities:- Social media marketing and management of lead generation for ticket sales- A combination of tech support and event management, my job usually entailed the smooth running of spoken words shows on the day- Creation of digital assets for live events, like showreels and pre-show trailers

It doesn't get much more customer-facing than this. Throughout my three years at Falmouth, I supported Open Days, recruitment fairs and general office admin.Towards the end of my academic career, I led on the promotion and management of my course's Summer Show. A tradition at Falmouth University that showcases the best work produced by students.On graduating, I continued to work for the university on a freelance basis and mentored current students.
