I help researchers, organizations, and governments around the world plan and achieve their research goals using completely open research information, directly through consultation services and indirectly by guiding the development of open tools that meet their evolving needs.

With a career straddling research and research management and experience supporting 40+ institutions across North America, I help researchers, organizations, and funders develop, implement, and evaluate research strategies. Ranging from big-ticket proposals and one-off projects responding to strategic priorities to longer term engagements like designing and implementing new institutional structures or strategic plans, I work to ensure that we're building an equitable and socially-focused research ecosystem.

Elsevier Research Intelligence generates actionable insights into the global research ecosystem, providing researchers and research managers the data and tools needed to inform and achieve their strategic research goals. I serve as a trusted advisor to research institutions across Canada supporting the use of Research Intelligence (bibliometrics, benchmarking, trends in collaboration, etc.) in research strategy, development, and management.

To support the rapidly growing research enterprise at Simon Fraser University, the Institutional Strategic Awards team brings together pre-award development and post-award management of large-scale and complex research grants, contracts, and prizes. As Director, I provide leadership to a team of highly skilled professionals to create successful applications and manage post-award processes. Acting as the key outward-facing role for the office, I work with a variety of external funding agencies as a strategic representative of the University, presenting to faculty and solving issues.

UBC is a Top 40 University with a research enterprise approximating $600M a year. I work with the VP and AVP Research to advance strategic priorities in UBC's research portfolio. Using research metrics and analytics, I benchmark research performance across disciplines at the University to (1) design and implement institutional support structures to enable research excellence in areas where potential exists and (2) leverage existing strengths to increase capacity and become world leaders in key research areas.

My role is to identify, develop, and maintain strategic partnerships with university, government, and industry collaborators. In this capacity, I liaise with individual researchers, departments, and institutions to prepare and administer joint grants and am responsible for corporate relations, publicity, and announcements related to collaborative projects.

My research at SFU is focused on kelp forest ecology of British Columbia. Specifically, I am studying how the recovery of sea otters to our coast affects nearshore marine communities with a focus on ecologically and economically important species.

Instructor for REM 611 Applied Community and Population Ecology. Required for all graduate students in the department of Resource and Environmental Management, this 5-unit course challenges ecology students to make their research directly applicable to policy and policy students to understand the importance of evidence-based decision making.

I was the Teaching Assistant for 5 different undergraduate Biology courses at UBC, ranging from first year Biology to specialized advanced undergraduate courses.

I was the Teaching Assistant for 2 Master's level science courses- Biology of Marine Seaweeds and Marine Science Diving. Duties included running laboratory and field activities as well as developing and implementing novel lectures and curricula.
