My main project during this time was the total synthesis of the proaporphine alkaloid stepharine. During this project I handled reaction scales from 5 mg to 50 g. I learned to plan syntheses accommodating intermediates with varying amounts of acid, base, air, and thermal instability along with developing my lab technique to effectively synthesize and isolate compounds.-Maintained laboratory notebook detailing all experiments run -Assisted in compliance with Environmental Health and Safety guidelines for a lab with 3,500+ chemicals-Obtained and analyzed spectral data to determine structural features of intermediates using IR, NMR, LCMS-Utilized Word, Excel, and Powerpoint to effectively communicate scientific findings and project progress-Purified compounds using distillation, crystallization, flash chromatography and preparative TLC
