I am currently the Controller of W.G. Clark Construction Company. My primary job is overseeing accounting, tax, and finance functions for a mid-size general contractor working out of the Greater Seattle Metropolitan Area.My career in the construction industry has helped me understand and appreciate the team dynamic essential in the construction process. It has also given me insight into the planning and development that creates a balanced and thriving community.I have been involved in construction for many years, and my professional experience in the industry includes multiple lines of work. I began as a laborer, gaining important knowledge on how projects are built in a hands-on environment. Moving from a laborer to an office setting, I learned project engineering and project management duties. These duties helped me understand the building process, increased my knowledge of construction methods, and provided additional training on the estimating and design aspects of the business. My employment history has also taken me to public accounting, where I continued my work in the construction industry, first as a Real Estate and Construction Advisory group member and later with the State and Local Tax group at KPMG LLP. My clients were primarily owners and developers, allowing me to move to the other side of the table and better understand the issues developers face during construction. During my time in public accounting, I successfully became a licensed CPA, an accomplishment that was achieved though hard work and dedication while working full-time in a demanding and competitive industry.
