My name is Kylee Ryan. I am currently a freshman at KSU majoring in Biology. It has been my dream since I was 5 years old to be a veterinarian and now, at 18 years old, I am still just as committed to my goal as I was 13 years ago. To reach my goal, I strive to do my absolute best academically and I channel my determination into action. In this way, I was able to graduate from high school a semester early with two semesters of college already completed through dual enrollment. I believe that my greatest strengths are my determination and my passion. My passion for Veterinary Medicine stems from my deep love of animals, but my determination came from the desire to be able to help. When I was 11 years old, my dogs were attacked by a neighbor's dog. My beagle, Gracie, had over 40 puncture wounds and we had no idea if she would survive the night. Most kids in this situation would be traumatized and would not want to have anything to do with wounded animals in the future, but I wasn't traumatized. I was filled with the deepest determination to go and help the other animals out there in similar situations to my dog. Those vets saved Gracie's life that night and they inspired me.Through the years I have gained many skills that I believe will benefit me in this field. While working as a receptionist in a medical massage office, I learned a lot about how a medical professional runs a business and how to interact with patients. In my job as a daycare worker, I've learned how to be an effective assistant, how to learn from others, problem-solving skills, and organization skills. And as a pet sitter, I constantly am learning more and more about the animals I care for.
