About Kylee Smith
I am passionate about catchment management, finding the right solutions for my Clients, whilst also supporting Floodplain and Catchment Protection, Environmental and Cultural Heritage values.With certification as a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and registered on the National Engineering Register (NER), I am currently the Victorian Water Group Manager at Maker Eng.I have expertise in hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, Flood Studies, Flood Impact Assessments, Flood Emergency Response Plans, Water Cycle Management Plans, Dam Breach and Consequence Assessments and provision of general flooding and catchment management advice. More recently, I have represented clients in the NSW Land and Environment Court.I have extensive experience in RORB, TUFLOW, HEC RAS 1d and 2d, GIS Platforms such as QGIS and ArcGIS and ARR2019. I am also familiar with XP RAFTS.Throughout my career I have worked in floodplain management within both riverine flooding and surface water assessment. I have modelled and assessed hundreds of development applications and have also been integral to the assessment of high-profile Victorian projects such as the Westgate Tunnel project and Major Road duplications through my role at Melbourne Water.With demonstrated strengths in communication and relationship building with clients, stakeholders, community and internal teams, I have worked with clients from a diversity of industries including development, architecture and landscaping, infrastructure and town planning through to local Councils and Government Authorities across Victoria, NSW, QLD and Tasmania.I have delivered training through the WMS Modelling for Managers course and the WMS QGIS course and I regularly mentor Students and Graduates.Having graduated with first class honours from RMIT University in 2010, I won a number of student prizes and awards throughout the duration of my course, including the AURECON Stormwater Management Award for Best Student in the Penultimate Year of the Course. Prior to studying engineering, I worked for a number of years in recruitment and marketing and as such bring a diverse range of skills to my work.I have a particular passion for Diversity and Inclusion within Engineering and was integral in leading the WMS application and subsequent achievement of the 2020 Engineers Australia Diversity in Engineering Award.
