In my capacity as the Director of Related Services for the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), I have led the coordination and supervision of district-wide special education related services for students with disabilities. This role includes overseeing budgets, compliance, and personnel, all while maintaining a focus on ensuring that resources are effectively allocated to support our mission.One of the highlights of my role is the oversight of a team of over 1,300 dedicated related services professionals. These individuals play a critical role in providing essential support to more than 33,000 students with disabilities who receive related services within LAUSD. Managing such a significant workforce requires effective leadership, communication, and a deep commitment to our shared objectives.My primary responsibility revolves around ensuring that students receive their mandated Individualized Education Program (IEP) services in strict accordance with federal, state, and district requirements. This role necessitates attention to detail and continuous communication with educators, administrators, and service providers.Data collection and analysis are central to my approach. I oversee a robust system for data collection and analysis, enabling us to track student progress and make informed decisions that enhance educational outcomes. I prioritize monitoring legal compliance to ensure our practices align with evolving regulations while fostering innovation within our service disciplines. We consistently seek new, more effective ways to support our students.In my role, I actively engage with related service providers and advisory committee groups through regular meetings. This approach fosters cohesion and keeps stakeholders well-informed about our goals and objectives.As the Director of Related Services, I am dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of students with disabilities.
