About Kyle Herminath

I have had a variety of design and development experience with 14+ years and 150+ websites. The vast majority of my work has been for small to intermediate businesses. Either working for the business as a do it all web guy or working at a web studio working in part at a variety of clients. The majority of my work has been full-time in-house and not part-time freelance work which is unlike many others in the field of Web. I am a Graphic or Web Designer first and Developer second.A summary of my career so far is as follows, I started in my first job hand-coding HTML, CSS, & JavaScript in 2006. Later on, I got into PHP and Content Management Systems like Joomla, WordPress, WooCommerce, Shopify, and Magento. About 8 years into my career I got my first Lead Design position at a web studio where I made mock-ups in Photoshop and then created them with Bootstrap 3. This experience is where I get about 100+ websites I've worked on.After this started a number of situations where I've come more and more familiar with WordPress and WooCommerce. Creating child themes, custom functions, working with plugins, and transitioning content from other CMS's to WordPress / WooCommerce.Looking to the future, I am learning Python and React. To round out the development portion of my web skills. I'm interested in a long React and React Native career. With a front-end development and design emphasis.Thank you for taking the time to read about my background. "What matters to me is pushing for excellence. Attempting perfection, that's what creative passion is about. Where you get caught up in the purity of your potential. I believe it is the goal of any artist. These moments we stand still to observe in awe. When you return you've been changed by your creation." I lead clients through the entire process of website design and development. Focusing on their needs, problems, and plans. I created results-focused websites that return value and move future customers to take action.I worked in WordPress to take mockups from design to reality. Often using Understrap and designing the child theme using custom functions to create new Gutenberg blocks to deliver the design requirements.
  • Webcitz, Llc
    Web Designer & Developer
    Webcitz, Llc Mar 2021 - Dec 2021
    Appleton, Wisconsin, United States
I worked in Wordpress to take mockups from design to reality. Using a customized version of Understrap and designing the child theme using custom functions to create new Gutenberg blocks to deliver the design requirements. Our method was one that used modern practices to code our WordPress sites with as minimal dependencies on possible WordPress updates. We coded in a way that updates will not break our websites.Later in my employment I had the opportunity to take over work for our Senior Designer and started working with clients to deliver logo sheets via Illustrator, website mock-ups in Photoshop & XD, and even editing manuals and other documents in Adobe InDesign.

  • The John Birch Society
    Senior Web Designer/Developer
The John Birch Society May 2018 - Apr 2020
    Appleton, Wisconsin
I switched our Law Enforcement Charitable Foundation to a new website saving us over $1,000 a month.I changed our Legislative Alerts provider to a new a modern company called One Click Politics (https://oneclickpolitics.com/) and exponentially increased our members engagement and effectiveness. For almost exactly the same cost.I convince our company to move from an archaic email marketing platform to the most used Mailchimp and the cost of it was close to the same. I also setup Email Templates for the Social Media department.I had them hire a talented programmer to help me finish the work that was left to be done. His recommendation of me as a manager is at the end of this in the References section.I raised awareness about the issues we have with YouTube backups and its bias against our company. I was working with our programmer and my boss to have Plan A, B, and C so that no matter what happened we would be able to continue to get out the word without worrying about shadow banning, throttling, or being removed completely.I continued to challenge JBS to think systematically in lobbying for a complete change of our enterprise management system, which handles our inventory, credit card processor, shipping, phone system, and much more; which is easily the #1 bottle-necking growth issue for JBS to this day. When I left the new programmer and I were in the process of transitioning TNA to a faster and all around better CMS.Finally, when I JBS left we were in the process of planning out and executing remade and revamped versions of the Archives, the two stores, freedom index, and creating mobile applications.
  • The John Birch Society
    Web Designer And Developer

JBS.org is anywhere from 75 – 100 pages that isn't including ShopJBS.org or the members area JBSArchives.org which has thousands of pages and products. The original main websites for JBS and TNA were made in Joomla and the corresponding stores were made in Magento.I remade the JBS.org website in Wordpress and transitioned all the content along with added new features.I also redesigned the ShopJBS & JBSArchives to match the new look and style that I had designed for The John Birch Society.Redesigned: ShopJBS (https://shopjbs.org/) Members Area (https://jbsarchives.org/) JBS.org Before (https://bit.ly/3obEQiN) & After (https://bit.ly/31sbfYN).The redesign exchanged a very long winded and disorganized website for one that is very visual and broke the the companies concepts into digestible segments.

My second time working for Virtualtech was as the Lead Designer. I was responsible for coming up with the Web Design ideas for all of our new clients. This normally meant working on any where from 1 - 5 websites a week.At this point we were using Bootstrap 3 and PHP to create these websites and my normal process was to create the home page's design and normally one more page besides to then hand off to the programmer to flesh out from there.
