As a graduate researcher in the Mat. Sci. department at UC Davis I manage a large research project. I design experiments that allow for definitive answers to questions about the magnetic properties of complex oxides. My project involved the investigation of charge transfer at nanometer thin, bilayer film interfaces. This involves growing the sample and doing extensive characterization on the structural and magnetic properties. In addition to the in-house work, I also gather data using highly specialized techniques only available at synchrotron radiation sources (such as the Advanced Light Source at Berkeley National Lab). I have developed a strong background in programming with Python to deal with the large sets of data.

I joined the Army straight out of high school. The military helped me establish much needed self discipline and direction in my life. I completed two over-seas tours of duty, one in Iraq and the other in Afghanistan. I entered as a private and worked my way up to sergeant. At my highest rank I oversaw a small crew of three soldiers. I was in charge of maintaining and tracking millions of dollars worth of communications equipment and weaponry. In addition to this I updated the personnel status of the entire company and filed for awards and promotions for each soldier.During my last year I decided that the military was not the career that I wanted. I began taking online math courses and went back to school shortly after separating from the Army.
