Studied the regulation of RNA polymerase II transcription and co-transcriptional mRNA processing using both biochemical and genome-wide approaches. Identified a Cdk7-dependent exchange of factors between Pol II initiation and early elongation using THZ1, a Cdk7 inhibitor, and in vitro transcription assays. Optimized ChIP-Seq to reduce input requirements.

Assisted in the processing of brain MRIs using FreeSurfer and NeuroQuant software in an attempt to find ways to quantify Alzheimer’s disease. Contributed to available brain image databases. Helped dissolve lab and perform system-wide backups as Dr. King transitioned to the University of Utah.
