Technology pathfinding for fluorescence lifetime imaging ophthalmoscopy (FLIO) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) at nascent startup, previously called Tesseract Health

Developed small, low-cost optical spectrometers for medical and industrial imaging using integrated optics. Responsibilities spanned optical device and architecture design, product requirement definition, microfabrication process development, prototype testing, intellectual property development, contractor management, and business development support. Conceived and developed novel multifunctional diffraction gratings in silicon nitride and oxynitride using RSoft and custom code.Our first nanophotonics-enabled product, OCTANE (Optical Coherence Tomography Advanced Nanophotonic Engine), won a 2014 Prism Award as best photonic innovation of the year. It offers dramatic improvements in size, cost, and robustness compared to conventional systems, which can open up many new applications for the the powerful 3D imaging capabilities of OCT.

I worked on developing the silicon photonics platform to build fast, tiny, and energy-efficient devices for optical data communication.Research included the design, simulation, fabrication, and characterization of silicon photonics devices (waveguides, modulators, detectors, and lasers) with an emphasis on unlocking new functionality through novel microfabrication, as well as system-level modeling of these devices working together.
