My project was to create a moisture accumulation model using existing instrumentation, material balances, and other first principle equations that relate temperature, pressure, and other process variables to the mass of moisture entering the coater. After completing the model, it is utilized in combination with historical data to create a performance baseline. Once the baseline has been created, control limits and associated automated alarms will be established to provide real-time moisture tracking which will increase overall coating performance evaluation. The ultimate goal is to prevent the coaters from running too dry (spray drying) or too wet (agglomerating), either of which causes coating performance issues leading to a reduction in productivity and, on occasion, the loss of an entire batch. Doing this allows the tracking of accumulated hours on each part. I managed to reduce a rather difficult component from 75 to 24 FSR's during my internship. Another one of my projects was for my manager's Six Sigma Green Belt. I was to capture the needs of the military onto one lean Alternate Parts List. This project gave me exposure to to Six Sigma practice and this project was presented to the United States Air Force and Marines at the FY10 Organized Parts List conference in Fort Walton Beach, FL. Lastly, I also had the opportunity to become Six Sigma Green Belt Certified during my time at Rolls-Royce. I completed my classwork through MoreSteam University and completed my project under the supervision of a Master Black Belt and a Black Belt Mentor. I reduced unnecessary fields pertaining to a Customer Satisfaction Index. This project allowed me to hone my statistical six sigma practice while also gaining vital skills such as organizing and leading meetings with platform managers, multitasking on several concurrent projects, and completing required training in a tight time frame.
