Volunteered July-August in 2017 with All Out Africa’s marine research center in Mozambique, Africa • AssistedMarine Research Director with collecting data on region's marine mega fauna such as the Whale Shark, HumpbackWhale, Manta Ray, Dolphin, Sea Turtle, etc. as well as collected weather data, sea condition and water quality data,as well as micro-plastic abundance on beach coastline • Used GPS to map the encounters with mega fauna andcreated a map of them using ArcMap • Used underwater photography to identify individuals within a species• Crafted and ran an interdisciplinary research project (pilot survey) on tourism as a strategy for povertyalleviation and marine conservation in Togo, Mozambique, focusing on demographics, economics, andactivities of tourists• All Out Africa now does year-long surveys built upon this pilot project• Incorporated literature review based strategies for using tourism as a function of poverty alleviation and jobcreation• Learned marine field techniques and gathered ecological data on the region’s marine megafauna (WhaleShark, Manta Ray, Humpback Whale, Sea Turtle, and Dolphin)• Research has been presented via poster and oral presentation, with plans for publication • Requireda minimum of 15 hours per week of workCurrent timeline is submission for publication by Thanksgiving 2020.
