Terra Insights is the parent company of five instrumentation & monitoring companies (RST Instruments, Measurand, NAVSTAR, Syscom, and 3vGeomatics). In my role with Terra Insights, I sold sensors, dataloggers, on-site networking equipment, and cloud software to a diverse group of clients in the geotechnical instrumentation, civil engineering, mining, and infrastructure construction markets.The sales process typically aligned with the “solution selling” model, where a deep technical understanding of each project’s needs was crucial. For example, I often worked with clients to develop monitoring solutions for design verification of planned consolidation settlement in soft/compressible soils (e.g. during new embankment construction). For these applications, I drew on my ground improvement and geotechnical engineering background to recommend vibrating-wire piezometer depths and ranges, appropriate settlement monitoring equipment (e.g. ShapeArrays or VW liquid settlement systems), optimal sensor locations & cable routing, and ideal data acquisition and management systems.
