Registered Nurse - Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit

24-Bed unit tertiary care center providing acute post-operative management to cardiothoracic surgery patients; as well as both medical and surgical diagnoses for advanced heart failure & cardiology patient populations. High-volume Cardiothoracic Surgical service performing 550 on-pump/80 off-pump cardiothoracic procedures per year; and 105 heart/lung transplants per year. Responsible for coordination and implementing all nursing care based on established nursing practice for a complex population of patients who possess high acuity and numerous co-morbidities necessitating: invasive hemodynamic monitoring & PA Catheters, mechanical ventilation, heart/lung transplantation, IABP Therapy, Inhaled Nitric Oxide, CRRT, Peritoneal Dialysis; as well as Ventricular Assist Devices such as: ECMO (Cardiohelp), LVAD (HeartMate II & III, HeartWare), and Impella. Competent in Open Chest Procedures, Epicardial & Transvenous Pacing; Massive Transfusion Protocols using both Level I Rapid Infusers and Belmont. Nurse-to-patient ratios are routinely 1:2, highly acute patients are 1:1 until stable. o Completed of 16-week Career Assessment & Transition (CAT) Critical Care Orientationo ECMO Specialist RN with 559 hours of documented bedside experience and 23.5 hours of training & education in management of patients requiring of both V-V & V-A Extracorporeal Life Support o Member, University Hospitals Code Blue Committeeo Unit EPIC Practice Champion for Night Shift – Highly proficient in use of Code Blue Narrator o Unit Preceptor for experienced & transitioning nurses
