CDNZ provides the development and provision of military training simulation equipment mainly using laser and radio technology. Part of the worldwide Cubic Corporation. My position as a mechanical design engineer consisted of the following.Responsibilities:• Performed surveys on customer equipment to identify system interfaces.• Contributed the mechanical engineering expertise to design projects.• Communicated with suppliers during product design and prototyping phases.• Conceptual and detailed design aided by Solidworks and Enterprise PDM file management.• Created technical drawings (drafting).• Performed post-production support including change coordination, problem solving and documentation update.Achievements:• Annual review recorded “Exceeded Expectation” in both performance and teamwork.• Successful completion of first major design project providing both project coordination and mechanical design input. Project had an eight month duration and involved the complete redesign of two test jigs used on the company’s highest production volume product. The new test jigs successfully tested the first production batch of 2000 units.

BE (Hons) final year thesis was based on Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV), Obstacle Avoidance. Achieved all our project goals with a fully working vehicle and A+ results upon completion.This project consisted of two main aspects. Firstly, the development and implementation of an obstacle avoidance algorithm which used data from a laser range finder for operation. This algorithm was programmed onto the AGV’s on-board microcontroller. Secondly, the AGV system hardware required several upgrades. Interfacing these new sensors and actuators required several mechanical, hardware and software changes. Our changes resulted in a working vehicle that could guide itself and avoid both static and dynamic obstacles autonomously.
