I am a graduate of West Virginia University, and I have received my certification through the BOC. After graduating in 2013 with my BA in Athletic Training, I gained experience by working at a WV Class AAA school for 4 years. There I honed my skills of parent, coaches, and administrator communication to make sure that best care was in place for the athletes. In 2017, I left my position at WPHS to continue my education at West Liberty University. While earning my MA in Special Education, I provided my athletic training skills as a graduate assistant partnered with Mountain River Physical Therapy to provide outreach athletic trainers to three OH Class A high schools. As the graduate assistant with the most work experience, I was tasked with ordering supplies for all schools as well as setting up a work schedule splitting one of the high school coverages due to the university only filling two of the three positions. As of July 2019 I have been in Wilmington, DE working for ATI Physical Therapy as an Outreach Athletic Trainer. My experience working with ATI has grown my abilities in providing the best care available for my student athletes. Being tasked with setting up doctor and physical therapy appointments, building relationships with the area physicians and physical therapists, and having the resources to create rehab programs in the athletic training room for injuries with a quick recovery time has made me a more confident athletic trainer.I really love working in the secondary school setting because I believe it allows me to create awareness for high school students on the importance of taking care of their injuries, as well as their mental health. I also believe that we have an epidemic happening in high school/college sports with mental health and the unrealistic expectations being placed upon our student athletes. I want to be the person who advocates for them if they feel any outside pressure and thinking they can't take any time off, or are struggling with an injury and feel discouraged with the recovery process.
