As a student teacher candidate, I am currently assigned to a fieldwork experience in a 7th grade integrated pre-algebra math course at Mendez Fundamental Intermediate in Santa Ana, CA. I work closely with my Mentor Teacher to become familiar with instructional planning, instructional strategies, student thinking, learning and engagement, assessment, reflection and classroom management. The fieldwork experience includes multiple opportunities to observe, develop and practice planning and teaching, as well as opportunities for the application of concepts and skills learned in concurrent education coursework. I have started co-teaching, and I will fully be taking over in the winter and spring. This experience provides me with an active learning context prior to teaching with an emphasis on diversity, expert teaching, procedures and routines of schooling, and knowledge about student developmental levels and educational needs.
