Kyra Mahoney Email and Phone Number
Last year, I finished up my double major in political science and history at IU's College of Arts and Sciences. I am a natural leader striving to do what's best for my team. I remained on the Executive Dean's List since my first semester in Bloomington, finishing with a 3.926 GPA. My additional certificate in Journalism speaks to my proficiencies in writing and communication.Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, growing up in the region of the nation's capital inspired me to be politically active and passionate about the issues that matter to me, i.e. gun control, voter education and access, social and racial justice, LGBTQ+ rights, and reproductive rights among others. At Indiana University, I learned to study politics and history in a Midwestern climate with opportunities to fight for change. In earning the Political and Civic Engagement (PACE) program certificate, I have put classroom theory into practice, working with peers to encourage those from all walks of life to be politically active. Additionally, I served as a Board Member and the Redistricting Intern with the League of Women Voters, where I built strong connections within IU's greater community and participated in non-partisan, political advocacy at the local level. After graduating, I spent the summer as a Team Advisor at the National Student Leadership Conference, organizing and teaching political simulations and leadership seminars for high school students on the Georgetown University campus and around DC. In this role, I mastered interpersonal and crisis management skills while bestowing my passion for politics and social justice with the next generation of leaders. Last fall, I joined the team at the National Restaurant Association. As their Public Affairs Intern, I led administrative and operational tasks and interacted with trade association stakeholders, lobbyists, and CEOs in their downtown DC office. This spring, I led press and legislative projects for the Office of Rep. Lori Trahan (MA-03) in the U.S. House of Representatives. I created daily written and digital content for Congresswoman, her team, and the entire House Democratic Caucus because of Rep. Trahan's role as Co-Chair for the DPCC. I administered frontline communications with constituents as well, serving them through the phone and in-person. I loved this role because of its contributions to public service and proximity to history.Currently, I am the Staff Assistant for Sen. Sarah Elfreth's Campaign to represent Maryland's Third District in Congress.
