Immersive Scholars are a group of selected freshman applicants who are awarded merit scholarships.With this award you are able to choose a career oriented internship during your sophomore year of college. With this opportunity, I worked at the Health Assessment Lab with Dr. Sabrina Noel where I collaborated with the Age-Friendly Lowell team to help understand how feelings of loneliness and social support impact older adults health and quality of life. The purpose of my research project was to gain a deeper understanding of the perceptions, attitudes and beliefs of social isolation and sources of social support among older adults living in Lowell. To do this, I conducted literature searches on previously collected data as well as creating a key informant interview guide based on the social ecological model. Lastly, I presented my project at the Umass Lowell student symposium to a panel of judges, where I explained the purpose and future direction of my project.
