As a pre-admit nurse I am responsible for screening all patients scheduled for surgical procedures at the hospital. This involves reviewingpt history and physical, labs, EKG, primary care medical records andspecialist records to determine if patient is medically stable for their procedure. It is my responsibility to determine if more documentation or testing is necessary. I call the patient to review medical history with them and discuss any medications they take so that our Anesthesia providers are aware and I give them pre operative instructions. I am responsible for making up the charts for the day surgery staff. In addition to this I am to be available to assist with the admission process which includes making sure the chart is complete and IV are started.
