We see too often managers promoted to positions they really shouldn’t fill. They want the top spot, they want the recognition, they want the power (we all want the money)…. but they truly don’t even like this work! Provided we could all keep the same compensation packages (or better), how many of us would jump at an opportunity outside this industry into something else? Well, I’m happy to say I wouldn’t. I love this industry and what we do every day!Hey, we all know there’s a difference between thinking, “We’re good at this so it must be right” and someone who’s legitimately passionate about work.So, what makes the difference? Well, it’s many factors but there are specific ones that are essential. It’s important to note that not any 'one thing' can have the same effect on everyone when considering all we interact with i.e., employees, consultants, architects, engineers, designers, clients, stakeholders, etc. However, it must start with a few uncompromisable factors…. you must LOVE what you do! You must find a way to infuse that same passion & energy into those around you. We need all types in this industry from the analytical to the personable to the practical to the optimist and so forth. But most importantly, people want to be a part of something that inspires them, that gets them excited each day, that helps them feel important/needed, that motivates them! Well, that’s where I excel! My teams are positive, happy, love their jobs, want to get better each day and by result inspire others to do the same!
