Labkhand Olfatmanesh's photography explores themes of feminism, racism, and isolation, and how these forces take shape in the United States and her birthplace of Iran. Labkhand's photography has exhibited in several countries, including most recently Japan and the U.K., and she has been awarded high honors from The Los Angeles Center of Photography (First Place, 2018) and LensCulture (Jurors Pick, 2018), among others. While earning a B.A. in graphic design, she became deeply passionate about photojournalism, a medium that allowed her to tell intensely personal stories about her subjects, as well as herself and her ongoing feeling of alienation in Iran. Through photojournalism, Labkhand created photo essays that were featured on Iranian national TV in 1996. Another recurring theme in Labkhand's work is borders and immigration, a theme shaped by her own uprooting. In 2003, she immigrated to Cyprus, an island nation whose citizens cannot move freely due to borders controlled by Greece and Turkey. Three years later during a short stay in the U.S., she won second place at the International Society of Photographers exhibit, which earned her an Individuals with Extraordinary Ability or Achievement visa and allowed her to seek permanent U.S. residency. Labkhand lives and works in Los Angeles.

The ISC advisor is an individual who works independently with one or more MFA students. Advisors are assigned to incoming students through a review of their portfolio, and in consultation with the Chair of Graduate Fine Arts. Students select their advisors in semesters 2–4.Individual Studio Critique (ISC) is a course of individualized study that typically takes place within the student's studio. Through this experience, students gather diverse opinions about the efficacy of their working methods and formal vocabulary and gather new resources that inform their research and practice.

The Panel will include artists, culture bearers, creative individuals, and/or arts administrators that represent the priority populations to be engaged; representatives from other state departments and agencies engaged in public health activities; individual artists that are already working at the intersection of arts and wellness, the environment, election participation, and social justice; and potential funding partners. The panel will utilize the CAC’s Strategic Framework, including the Racial Equity Statement and Decision Support Tool, to ground their recommendations for program development.

ACTIVATE Innovators is a project incubator designed to support arts leaders as they grow an idea into a fully-planned project. Founded in 1992, Side Street Projects’ mission is to give artists of all ages the ability and means to support their creative endeavors. We are a mobile, artist-run organization that supports artists, projects, and programs to foster leadership through socially engaged art and a DIY ethos. We are social entrepreneurs who work with communities to solve real world problems. The culture of working, learning and sharing is a defining characteristic of Side Street Projects. We creates a space for cyclical dialogue with our community. Through this dialogue, we pledge to commit to furthering social justice. To accomplish this, it is essential that we work with artists who have a full spectrum of cultural experiences and identities. We employ artists to teach in schools, and pay our artists working in communities. The artists at Side Street Projects share what they have learned to strengthen the field of artists who work with communities, schools and organizations.

As lead photographer my responsibilities were consulting customer’s photography needs by guiding them through the session photography process. I coordinate and schedule classic or modern studio photography sessions for a variety of client needs. After being promoted to manager my responsibilities include managing daily operations and employees, training and development, generating sales leads, closing customer photography sales, and supervising shifts. Other responsibilities include hiring and training staff, store advertising and promotions, set and lighting design, event coordination and production.

As Staff photographer for two monthly magazines, my responsibilities included interviews, special reports, and advertising campaigns and products. I also covered press conferences, and political events working in the multi-national company with special experience in international news.
