Even as a child, I loved helping people. I was the person whom my friends and family came to for advice. I learned early on about the effects of mental health and wellness. It became part of who I am. Because of this, I wanted to learn more and went to college for Psychology. In my first Psychology class, I became fascinated with understanding how the brain works and how mental health affects it. It is theorized that mental health is in part due to a chemical imbalance in the brain; therefore, medications are given to increase or decrease neurotransmitters that regulate behaviors and emotions. What surprised me was the fact that these levels are rarely tested (if ever) before medication is given. This escalated my passion for wanting to find a way to test for neurotransmitter levels before medication is given. This would reduce the amount of trial-and-error when prescribing medications. In addition, the long-term effects of children taking these types of medications are still not well known. Accordingly, I got involved in research projects during college.My professional experiences all relate in some way to my desire to learn as much as I can about mental health; directly or indirectly. I am compassionate, detail-orientated, creative, and profoundly determined. I am an advocate for mental health awareness and wellness. I completed a mental health first aid class to learn how to deal with a crisis situation. I am a strong leader and love to organize things to improve efficiency. I have created a document to organize articles in APA format to assist me in writing a research paper. I have also created multiple procedure documents for research projects I was involved with.Amanda La Bode
