We studied the state statutes, worked with Oregon Health Authority, bought an ambulance, cashed out our 401K, fulfilled the equipment and personnel requirements, were accepted into the local Ambulance Service Area Plan, applied and were approved for a state ambulance service license, and finally transported our first patient a year later in March of 2016. We became foster parents with the intention of foster adopting. After caring for multiple infants, young children, and a couple teens our hearts were broken by a tiny meth baby who was returneded to her parents with no conditions of treatment or supervision. This experience was the main catalyst for me to pursue a public administration graduate degree. More needs to be done in research and policy to protect and defend vulnerable children and support foster families/adoptions.

The sports programs at our small school do not have tryouts, any student who wants to participate is included. The three seasons I coached grades 6-8, there were between 22 and 35 players who participated. Those participants ranged in skill level from girls who would duck and avoid the ball to girls who had been playing club for 2 years. We had one court and 1 hour and 35 minutes four days a week to practice. It was a logistical challenge, but very rewarding

I assisted with an after-school program for secondary students who needed help with math and reading. The program was funded by a two-year grant and required us to keep data on attendance, meals, and to offer educational experiences such as helping with the farm-to-school program or learning new software.

As a K-12 substitute, I was willing to teach any subject and was most often asked to substitute for advanced math and middle school classes. I had previously been a long-term substitute for a middle school science teacher on maternity leave.
