About Lacey Hirtle

Lacey Hirtle is a P.Eng who is passionate about helping Canadians choose safe and sustainable transportation for their day-to-day trips. Working in active transportation since 2009, Lacey began her career at the City of Vancouver, developing transportation plans for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games, gaining experience with multi-disciplinary teams, and co-managing the Vancouver Transportation Operation Centre during the Games. She designed Vancouver's first downtown separated bicycle lanes which included research into best practices worldwide, consultation with the public and key stakeholders, and scripting and starring in an introductory video for the project. Lacey also managed the bicycle monitoring program for the City in 2012. After having two children, Lacey worked part-time and sub-consulted for Alta Planning + Design (Vancouver, BC). In 2018, she returned to the City of Vancouver as their Senior Engineer in Traffic Safety. Lacey led a team of engineers and unionized staff, focusing on reducing traffic related fatalities. Her team also worked with Vancouver schools on active transportation planning.She returned to the City of Vancouver in 2022, this time to bring traffic calming to Vancouver neighbourhoods. Most recently, Lacey joined the City of New Westminster to help deliver their Active Transportation Network Plan (ATNP).Specialties: traffic safety + school active transportation + seniors traffic safety + rail safety + research + literature review + separated bicycle lanes + bicycle monitoring program
