Sustainability rotation:• Part of the corporate sustainability team in Richmond, focussing on emission reduction initiatives in Australia.• Developing and implementing gas saving capital projects across manufacturing sites in Victoria and Tasmania as part of our 2030 goals of a 50% decrease in scope 1 & 2 GHG emissions.• Data analysis and engineering support on the world leading Fonterra asparagopsis seaweed trials, working towards reducing enteric methane emissions from dairy cows on-farm.• Contributing towards Fonterra Australia’s reporting, forecasting and historical analysis of GHG emissions.• Reporting to the GM of Sustainability (Global Markets).Darnum site rotation:• Part of the technical team, mainly focussing on investigating and scoping potential capital upgrades of process equipment.• Heat recovery project focussing on quantifying waste heat sources across the site and scoping the feasibility of reclaiming this energy using heat pumps.• Conducted an in-depth investigation into the performance issues of the macro-nutritionals powder transfer system and engaged contractors to develop a range of proposals to address this.• Experience was developed using SCADA and MES systems for process control and data manipulation, as well as learning automation concepts such as interpreting FDs and PLC ladder logic.Stanhope site rotation:• Part of the production team in the whey powder plant in a highly varied role.• Implemented the roll out of the Autonomous Maintenance pillar of Fonterra’s continuous improvement framework IWS (Integrated Work Systems).• Modelled and subsequently managed the frequent and rapid changes to production plan that were required to deal with excess whey during a three month period of increased cheese production, including a week as acting process manager of powder and liquids.• Supported the compliance of the plant with safety, quality and environmental regulations.

Returning for a second vacation period as a process engineering student. This role was located in the wastewater treatment area of Australian Paper in Maryvale and several projects were delivered focussing on updating and improving the wastewater processes of the large industrial site. These projects aimed to deliver improvements to the local environmental footprint of the site as well as to increase efficiency of specific energy intensive processes in the wastewater treatment area.

Maryvale

A process engineering student position tasked with implementing various product quality assurance projects. Working in the vicinity of paper machines 1, 2 & 3 at the Australian Paper site in Maryvale, a number of projects were delivered whilst working with and learning from experienced process engineers. This was an excellent opportunity to work in a large scale industrial area and it provided me with invaluable experience at an early stage in my professional career.

Part time laboratory technician role at a leading analytical chemistry laboratory. This role was as a wide ranging general technician, involving duties ranging from carrying out mortar sampling on construction sites to assisting in the scientific literature research required for the assistance of clients in legal matters. This period of employment was particularly fulfilling as it allowed me to both utilise and improve upon the various scientific skills gained throughout the completion of my chemistry extended major at Monash University.
