Ongoing administrative responsibility for a portfolio of research funding in excess of $10M. This role entailed providing a working interface between granting bodies and the UQ research community. Various projects being funded under different granting schemes, business operations necessarily involved extensive management and interpretation of a wide variety of contractual forms. Pre-award review of research proposals for major grant rounds involved ensuring compliance with funding scheme rules as well as general grantsmanship. As with a commercial tender, the aim for this role is to maximise the chances of funding success, working within the constraints mandated by the substantive research material.

Manager of a team of 4 responsible for the animal ethics regulatory system at UQ. Responsible for compliance with the national regulations governing the care and use of animals for scientific purposes. Duties included the maintenance of five animal ethics committees with oversight of more than 500 new animal ethics approvals per annum, as well as a very large number of active approvals. This position required extensive engagement with stakeholders from widely divergent backgrounds and viewpoints, in a complex and politically sensitive environment. During my tenure I was responsible for the design and implementation of a digital system to replace the entirely paper-based animal ethics application system.

Review of contract structure and liaison with Crown Law, significant input into production of contract schedules.

Responsible for day to day management and performance monitoring of a service contract in excess of $5M annually. Extensive contractor liaison, review and automation of contractor performance reporting.

Responsible for Data mining and manipulation from core business systems, preparation of monthly and quarterly reports including detailed management analysis for leadership team and board, analysis of data and ad-hoc technical tasks as required.
