About Lacy Mucklow, Ma, Atr-Bc, Lpat-S, Lcpat, Atcs, Cctp, Cimhp

Ever since junior high, I wanted to be a psychologist. After I learned about the use of art with the schizophrenic and dissociative populations in my high school psychology class, I realized that my desire to be a psychologist and my artistic hobby could be used together in helping people. I attended Oklahoma State University, where I graduated with my BA in Psychology with a Studio Art minor. There, I participated in undergraduate research, gained experience at an inpatient geriatric psychiatric ward internship, & was an undergraduate TA for abnormal psychology. From there, I attended The George Washington University, where I matriculated with my MA in Art Therapy. While there, I gained experience in placements in a special education high school setting and a day treatment program for trauma survivors.I am currently working on my PhD in Mind-Body Medicine with a specialization in Integrative Mental Health from Saybrook University to provide an even wider array of services to my clients. My experience includes working with families in home-based counseling, with emotionally disturbed adolescents and preschool-age children in DC inner city schools, and with adolescent military dependents in behavioral health partial hospitalization program (PHP) and inpatient units. I currently work with active duty military in a PHP setting, in private practice with all ages, and with cancer patients in art for wellness groups. I also supervise graduate interns and ATR/licensure candidates. I am also a New York Times best-selling author, presenter, and worldwide interviewee.Licenses:State of Maryland:• Licensed Clinical Professional Art Therapist (LCPAT), 2013• Approved Art Therapy Supervisor, 2018 Commonwealth of Kentucky:• Licensed Professional Art Therapist (LPAT-S), 2012• Approved Art Therapy Supervisor, 2021 Certifications (Art Therapy Credentials Board):• Registered Art Therapist (ATR), 2005• Board Certified (BC), 2006• Art Therapy Certified Supervisor (ATCS), 2018Independent Provider Information:NPI #1356830665CAQH #14253767Broadcast Music, Inc. PRIVATE PRACTICEI provide art therapy services in a private practice setting primarily for individuals, with tweens, adolescents, and adults. I incorporate creative interventions to help people with their needs in a way that can be effective in a more deep and connective way, using art making to help clients discover, explore, communicate, resolve, process, and express themselves more fully without judgment or expectation. Much of my work is with persons diagnosed or struggling with depression, anxiety, OCD, autism, psychosis, trauma, grief and loss, transition and adjustment issues, perfectionistic tendencies, and self-esteem. I employ a number of approaches through art therapy, including cognitive-behavioral, strengths-based, client-centered, and Jungian paradigms. I am trained and proficient in a number of specialties, including sand play therapy, the ITT Graphic Narrative trauma processing, Mandala work, and the Diagnostic Drawing Series (DDS). I also like to focus on mindfulness and meditative methods to help people relax and be able to reduce their stress levels.

I started working with this nonprofit by facilicating weekly virtual art therapy groups from the Annapolis-Baltimore area in a successful pilot workshop with positive feedback to continue as regular programming, with opportunities to expand to other related groups for cancer support (caregivers, healthcare workers, age-specific, etc.). Since the program has expanded, I now facilitate biweekly virtual art therapy support groups for cancer patients and survivors from around the country to help increase self-expression, foster hope and strengths, identify coping skills, and engage in mindfulness and grounding. I also plan rotating curricula for each set of workshops and determine art materials needed for each workshop cycle for patient art kits and collaborate and plan workshop preferences and availabilities in advance with other art therapists and coordinator and debrief as needed after sessions.

After being inspired by my clients at work as an art therapist, seeing how relaxation helps some of them immensely, I set forth to create my own relaxation album so that they could benefit from the relaxation methods I use with them far beyond their treatment, as well as with the world as a whole. When I posited the idea about doing such a project, I was amazed at not only the overwhelming sense of support to do so, but also by the offers of high-caliber professionals around the world to contribute to make it happen. It is well-known that people find it hard to relax, and increasing numbers of people find it difficult to sleep well also. Using my original guided imagery, I take you through soothing scenarios to help your mind focus on something calming, and the original music that supports these scripts are created by world-class musicians, who bring their gifts of composition and performance to perfectly punctuate each visual detail to help your mind and body relax and become calmer. I provide on-site clinical supervision for graduate art therapy students in their practicum site who need a local placement while enrolled in their distance-learning art therapy program. Due to the nature of this program, intern assignments are more sporadic due to the needs of the students and where they live.As the on-site faculty, I also verify internship hours, and evaluate the students' performance regularly for their practicum grade. I work on maintaining communication with the college faculty on a regular basis given the distance-learning model to ensure fulfillment of educational rubric standards and identify the strengths, limitations, and improvement of each student as seen in the clinical setting.
