About Lada Brown (Née Homutova)
I started my journey as an anthropologist. At 23, I put my explorer's pants on, packed my empathetic self in one backpack, left my Czech home, and went to Vietnam for 6 months to observe and learn. At first it was a cultural shock but I kept coming back because I felt it was the best school of life. What surprised me the most was that people in Vietnam, with less wealth seemed in many ways happier because their lives were more simple. It made me think about how to create simplicity for our Western society immersed in abundance of products, information and wealth.Fast forward 10 years. I moved to Australia, finished my PhD and found the answer to simplicity in UX design. After years of academic writing I crave creating a practical impact and helping people while employing both the designer and analyst in me. I have been developing my design thinking mindset and UX skills to be able to help people, businesses and clients to simplify their lives and work, give them more time, remove their stress and help to add value. I cannot wait to join like-minded designers and companies in designing apps, websites and products that enable people to live better lives.During my PhD I worked in academic professional jobs for 4 years, built 4 websites in WordPress, provided high profile customer service, organized 9 large meetings, improved communication, relationship and project management. These are the main areas that transfer very well into UX. Other skills useful for UX:Outstanding analytical skills: research questions, work with data, their structure and interpretationInterviewing and presentingResearch methodologies (focus on qualitative)Sketching, visual designCopywritingAdobe Photoshop, Illustrator, WordPress, Asana, learning Sketch
