VBFA's VP and CFO, Ladd Birch brings more than 27 years of mechanical engineering experience to Southern Utah, Southern California, Northern Arizona and Southern Nevada. As the principal engineer for VBFA’s St. George office, Ladd has designed mechanical systems for schools, hospitals, office buildings, casinos, auditoriums, restaurants and correctional facilities. Ladd has specific experience in the design of ground source heat pump mechanical systems, surface water heat pump mechanical systems, central plants, fan room equipment, boiler room equipment, duct work design and rooftop equipment. Ladd was voted one of the top 40 mechanical engineers under the age of 40 in 2009 by the "Intermountain Contractor" Magazine.Specialties: For the past 10 years Ladd has specialized in ground source heat pump and surface water heat pump mechanical systems for K-12 schools, office buildings, correctional facilities and visitor centers. Ladd was the project engineer for the 285,000 sf Desert Hills High School in St. George, Utah which has the largest ground source heat pump system in the State at 420 boreholes at 300 foot deep. And is currently involved in the construction of the Hurricane High School replacement school.An engineering mentor, an example, and a leader of an engineering firm with more than 150 employees and four locations, Ladd demonstrates excellence. Ladd regularly checks in on buildings that have been completed for several years. He will watch the performance of these buildings so that he can continually improve his craft. He is always available to the building owners to help them trouble shoot any problems that occur long after the building is complete.
