Under the supervision of Dr. Paul Grof, I conducted a longitudinal study which attempts to unravel the complicated relationship between bipolar disorder and socioeconomic status. Using examples from research conducted over the past 30 years, as well as longitudinal data from a patient population across Ottawa and Hamilton, this study details how this relationship has changed over the years and attributes this shift to the broadening of diagnostic criteria.

Under the supervision of Janice Mayne and Dr. Daniel Figeys, I examined the link between gain-of-function PCSK9 mutations and their effects on LDL cellular uptake. I performed several research experiments using Elisa’s, protein assays, and Western blots.

Under the supervision of Dr. Andrew Makrigiannis, I performed flow cytometry, Elisa’s, protein assays, and blots in order to examine the contribution of different cell surface receptors involved in NK cell and pDC function.

Under the supervision of Dr. Majambu Mbikay, I performed cell culture experiments in order to measure the level of cholesterol uptake into pancreatic beta cells. I also performed immunoprecipitation and immunoblotting in order to isolate protein chains and measure protein levels. Finally, I conducted a feeding study on transgenic mice, which included tagging the mice, weighing them, and measuring their blood levels.
