I provide advice and administrative support to MSPs on all aspects of Committee work. Working to tight deadlines and on complex and fast evolving areas of policy, I produce meeting papers, convener’s briefs, correspondence, speeches and subordinate legislation reports. I liaise with the Convener to review meeting briefs and plan remote engagement with stakeholders. I manage witnesses from selection to onboarding and feedback. • My key achievements include the production of clear and politically balanced documents with a creative use of resources at my disposal. I recently wrote speeches for a Chamber debate on the Arts funding inquiry without having been involved in the inquiry at all. I used reports and submissions to inform a skeleton, worked with SPICe colleagues, researched most recent news items as well as leading organisations’ Twitter feeds and Government’s webpages to link the 2019 inquiry to the current challenges and opportunities faced by the Arts sector. The speeches were well received and allowed for a productive debate to inform the support the sector needs to recover from the current crisis and thrive. • I regularly use a range of new tools to allow Members of the Committee to have live and productive discussions on correspondence and reports when political differences require clear and fast communication. With only an hour turnaround in between a Committee meeting and a Chamber vote, I managed to get all MSPs to edit and agree on a response to the Brexit deal at the end of 2020.• Over the last quarter of 2020, in collaboration with the Web Team, I have spearheaded an overhaul of the Committee’s Twitter account to better promote the work of the Committee, bring out key issues in more attractive ways using clips and visuals. This meticulous research and improvement process has resulted in the Twitter account being the most active and interacted with in the Committee office for the last quarter of 2020.

The Scottish Parliament’s Public Engagement Strategy aims to increase engagement and participation to support and strengthen the work of the Parliament and enhance parliamentary democracy. A new Committee Engagement Unit (CEU) has been set up.
