After some hardcore low level hacking on the bare metal hypervisor layer, I ended up architecting the Java tools for the platform we used. A proud moment was when we beat physical Linux on an app server load test on virtual hardware. I also wrote a book on runtimes in general and the JRockit JVM in my spare time together with Marcus Hirt - Oracle JRockit - the definitive guide.
