Collaborate for greater impact. 2. Make thinking visible, testable, and adaptable.3. Center the wisdom and experiences of people who are closest to the issues.4. Model racial equity as a verb through mindset, practices, and ways of being in the work.The result is powerful impacts: Launched an internal Duke Endowment initiative to center equity in Covid-19 grantmaking, directing more than $14M in relief to Black, Latine, and Indigenous communities in the Carolinas and changing grantmaking practices.Initiated the Kauffman Foundation's first culturally responsive and equitable evaluation, shifting power to co-create the evaluation of a $150M initiative.Developed the NC Health Equity Impact Assessment (HEIA) to focus and align strategies to improve health disparities. The HEIA has been used by the NC Division of Public Health Women's Health Branch and local health departments to strengthen funding for evidence-based programs.Supported the creation of NC's Pathways to Grade-Level Reading Measures of Success Framework. The measures are used by the Leandro Commission, the Governor’s Early Childhood Advisory Council, the myFutureNC Commission, the Birth-Third Grade Interagency Council, and the Early Childhood Data Advisory Council to inform policy, practice, and resource decisions.
