I currently work at the Serviço Pastoral para Migrantes in the EuroPana project, which is currently in its 5th phase. The EuroPana project aims to contribute to ensuring safe and informed migration, as well as filling critical gaps in humanitarian assistance and integration of migrants in vulnerable situations and is funded by Caritas Switzerland and ECHO. I work as a protection assistant to support the implementation of the protection objectives of the EuroPana projects. The protection objectives of the project include identifying, analysing and documenting protection risks for vulnerable individuals or groups or those at imminent risk, developing an action plan to mitigate risks and case management and follow-up to ensure the safety of the people involved. In addition to providing individual protection assistance, I also liaise with local bodies and organisations so that we can work together, and when necessary, I refer migrants to specialised services, strengthening protection actions. In this way, I maintain good relations with local authorities and humanitarian actors. I also organise and facilitate group and individual information sessions and monthly awareness campaigns. I participate in training and feedback sessions on protection actions, providing training on humanitarian principles and protection risk mitigation strategies. Finally, I do administrative work such as feeding the data that has been collected into the SPM system in conjunction with Caritas Switzerland and Echo so that our funders are always aware of our work in the field (system used: SMASH and KOBO).

Provide direct legal assistance to refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants regarding to the asylum process, residence requests and documentation as well as overcoming legal, social and economic barriers to access to legal rights and public services in the country; Specialized support for the most vulnerable migrants, in particular victims of gender-based violence (women, LGBT+), indigenous populations, individuals with mental health problems, the chronically ill, the elderly and separated children.; Propose and implement projects that increase access to documentation and public services for migrants, including training and information sessions for community leaders and establish links between migrant communities and UNHCR, local authorities and other NGOs, in order to improve the protection and services received by migrants, applicants and refugees, including informal meetings and input into the advocacy strategy.
