I've recently written the following piece, describing my mutual love for sudoku and mathematics, and would hope you enjoy (it wouldn't hurt ya to read it since you're already on my profile!).A three-by-three square. Nine cells. Distinct integers in every row, column, and block. The apparent simplicity of Sudoku belies its complexity, as each puzzle demands both precision and creativity to solve. Yet, filled out sudoku books didn’t stack up on my nightstand simply because I loved to see numbers inhabit 81 squares. It was about unearthing patterns hidden deep inside the rows and columns and watching them build to a completed grid.Naturally, recognizing patterns found a Romeo and Juliet story within mathematics. The process of “showing your work” transformed abstract movements into measurable steps, each with its own value. While my friends equipped diamond swords in Xbox 360 Minecraft, I wielded the New York Times Sudoku Notes function, making digital notes on each square (like my friends making mental notes to unsend invitations to gaming sessions).This joy in the discovery of the process led me to tutoring, helping others see the same pathways I did. Over the past three years, the countless online whiteboards I’ve scrawled my meticulous notes over are a testament to my belief in the journey rather than the destination.Ultimately, I search for the opportunity to create impact. Whether it be guiding a younger student through their calculus homework or developing an innovative solution that I can be proud of, I'll use this "square-by-square" mentality to continue treading into the vast expanse of possibility we call the future.
