Spire builds wearable devices to encourage mindfulness and manage disease. Led product from hardware/software proof-of-concept through tens of thousands of units shipped. Defined requirements for materials, hardware, signals processing, client apps, backend services/APIs, and data science/user analytics. Did lots of odd jobs in pursuit of our ship dates (eg. wrote device firmware update stack).Designed and implemented tools to experiment with consumer retention/resurrection, joining large datasets across marketing, biosignal, app usage, NPS, manufacturing, and fulfillment dimensions to drive industry leading 12-week retention figures. Reduced purchase return rate 9% via defect modeling/prediction and targeted multi-channel outreach.

Built a marketplace for scientific computing. Anapsis connected algorithm creators with dataset owners, enabling data analysis and experimentation without discovery and infrastructure costs. Raised seed funding from Kleiner Perkins and other investors.

Built and managed data science platform for Office 365. Shipped a pipeline to ingest, transform, and report on large volumes of unstructured data for key external partners. One of two PMs driving data privacy/sovereignty/compliance reqs. (eg FISMA/FedRAMP) across Exchange Online.Engineered a security data product monitoring Microsoft employees. Defined service monitoring products, identifying brownouts (eg BGP route leaks) in realtime. A primary co-inventor on issued patents covering user and entity behavior analysis, and data fidelity assessment.

Performed scalability and concurrency experiments with memcached, a distributed caching system. Rewrote large portions of its code base in an effort to better exploit cache-specific semantics. Recorded near linear thread:throughput growth and significant performance gains on many-core machines.

Assisted in maintaining a preeminent ichthyology collection containing over two million fish specimens. In addition to curatorial work, conducted independent taxonomic research, with a focus on catfish in the African Rift Lakes.
