About Lamar Phillips
I believe in the concepts of enlightenment, empowerment, and enhancement. One of the primary keys to walking this path is through education.. No matter the field, or experience...it takes some type of education to develop and grow in a positive fashion. As a leader the tenants of servant and transformational leadership guide my steps and decisions regarding my interactions with others. There is always thought behind what can be learned in each situation. Each person's presence & influence can contribute to wisdom. My internal question is what is the legacy left by my actions. Whether the topic relates to arts, entrepreneurship, history or technology someone's life should be improved because of efforts used.My eclectic educational philosophy can be summarized by stating that the purpose of education is to transmit the knowledge, skills, and understandings of a currently existing society. This can be done in a setting where students have a basic grasp of the best information that its community and environment can offer with as little limitation as possible. Yet a never-ending process of education should allow each learner to develop academically, emotionally, socially, and practically with regard to subject matter so that he can contribute to his own development, as well as that of society, throughout his lifetime. Each learner should become the defender and advocate of further advancements in concepts, products, ideas, and even movements that shape society. Therefore it is imperative that educators design curriculum and processes that arm the learners with valuable core knowledge and skills. Along with this should come learning activities and sequences that provide opportunities to function in roles that foster the initiation of high level thinking, maturity, worldview perspectives, and social benevolence. These points should be fused with incessant, intrinsic mental, spiritual/moral, physical, social/emotional, and financial/fiscal intelligence and development.

Fine & Performing Arts Management Specialist
CurrentMusic Director/Teacher/Lead Mentor
My duties as Music Director at DMA were to establish instructional goals and implement plans that both taught the concepts of music education, appreciation, history, and performance as well as connected with core education components. Often instructional design included cross curricular education addressing math, science, reading with concentrations in history and culture, and writing. Much of this was also infused with a moral focus geared toward leadership development.
Teacher/Mentor
School Improvement Plan Committee Chair (Community Outreach, Common Core/M-Step), Teacher Motivation PLC Co-Chair,GVSU Learning Network Participant
Assistant Music Director
On four campuses of the private school entity, along with the performance venues chosen, I assisted with the instruction, management, and counseling of hundreds of 3rd-8th students. I particular focused attention to the instrumental programming, yet assisting with vocal and general production as well rounded out several duties. One of the more prominent factors was working with parents, teachers, and administrators to be sure connections were made to community resources, local public and private high schools, as well as vendors and sponsors for student growth and participation. Hosting master classes, guiding student mentoring, and hosting guest clinicians was a great asset to this organization. Working with college students who were becoming teachers as well proved exceptionally rewarding during this time. Serving urban families in a private setting was a unique thrill and showed me yet other ways to manage the demands of financing, supporting, and being beneficial to a community with great demands and few resources.
Minister In Training
I worked with Chosen ministry concentrating on middle school aged youth in mentoring and leadership training. I was also involved with learning lesson planning from a biblical perspective, yet this was very closely aligned with traditional educational instructional planning as well.I also served with "My Father's Business" ministry in working with entrepreneur's starting and growing new businesses within the surrounding community.
Band Director/General Music Instructor
I served with distinction in grade levels 3 through 12 as an instrumental music specialist, general music, appreciation and history instructor, choir and drama specialist. During this time, I also served on text-book adoption and correspondence committees. I participated in the formulation of honors ensembles at the elementary level, co-lead county-wide Pops Orchestras at multiple levels, mentored young leaders, conducted tutoring in math and reading, created business clubs, and interacted with several community groups including, but not limited to Scouts, churches, county political organizations and local businesses.
