My name is Lan Le, originally from Saigon, Vietnam – “The Paris of the East” – and I graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Biomedical Engineering. Engineering has always been my passion. I am hopeful for a future where technology and engineering converge to resolve humanity's most important social and environmental issues. I'm also a deep learning (DL) enthusiast and my biggest interest is in the use of DL to help find solutions for to some technical problems that I think are very crucial in society these days such as medical imaging, navigation and self-driving car.Currently I’m a software engineer at Phiar Technologies Inc where I help create AI-powered AR Navigation system on the phone. Recently, I focused on mostly the deep learning pipeline of the company including processing image data, training and deploying our DL model onto the phone. In addition, I also help with maintaining the stability of the app as well as prototyping, deploying, and optimizing image processing algorithm on the phone by using accelerated library or parallel computation.When I'm not doing work, I enjoy spending time learning more about the fundamental knowledge of programming and deep learning using various online resources. I really enjoy reading about the newest SOTA deep learning techniques, especially those that were published at top conferences such as ICLR, CVPR and NEURIPS. I also find it useful to strengthen newly learned knowledge by understanding, prototyping and applying them to solve some simply problems or even apply them directly to my work. I'm also tirelessly pushing forward toward my goals and carves new paths in the design process to provide better solution to the problem I’m facing.
