To analyze long-term change of extratropical hemisphere cyclone activity, mean sea level pressure fields (MSLP) of a quasi-millennial (1000-1990) global climate simulation are applied to track storm events. The usage and utility of two existing tracking algorithms are also examined and compared to detect North Atlantic polar lows, which are very intense mesoscale cyclones.
