• Advisor to New Ventures group of a major oil company in generating its business development strategy, business plan, and acquisition/alliance business processes. Coordinated new ventures staff initiatives and recommended alignment of vice-president performance measures to enhance company competitiveness.• Commissioned by a major oil company to study and recommend the acquisition of four companies that best fit the strategic growth and geographic focus of the client. Resulted from the evaluation of 35 companies based on financial metrics to determine the potential value creation for the client.

• Generated a Latin America growth strategy for an international E&P company to increase production to 200 MBoepd by the year 2000. By assessing the client's current asset position and core competencies, the team identified and prioritized upstream/downstream opportunities in six countries that included Venezuela, Trinidad, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Argentina.• Identified growth avenues for an international oil company's Indonesia business unit. The recommendation was based on an in-depth analysis of each multi-national competitor and a comparative evaluation of the client's performance which yielded a multi-million dollar investment to capture identified opportunities.• Recommended U.K. and Norway North Sea acquisition candidates and potential partners for a major oil company. Identified and assessed the target companies’ attributes by evaluating asset positions, likelihood to divest, and potential value creation to achieve the acquirer's growth strategy to double NPV by 2000. The client presented the recommendation to management.• Designed a comprehensive deepwater Gulf of Mexico strategy and a high-level implementation plan as a strategy team member for a major oil company. The outcome of the project was a multi-million dollar commitment to generate the deepwater business unit as a key growth area in this company's portfolio.

• Designed and directed the largest offshore drilling experiment in the history of the U.S. DOE Class I Oil program. Coordinated a consortium of seven universities in a scientific effort to compile and integrate research data to successfully test the theory of fluid migration through fault zones.• Negotiated research project contracts with five universities, five major oil companies, and the DOE. As liaison, addressed specific needs, risks and problems, and developed business solutions to benefit all parties. Results featured in the Houston's Museum of Natural Science and in 35 published papers.
