I handled scientific programming needs for the Informatics group at Nurix. This includes mostly Python programming with some Pipeline Pilot and other languages,.I automated porting data between electronic laboratory notebooks, primarily using Python and JSON. I automated regulatory reporting for CERS using Python.I rewrote a program, previously in C, which handles sequencing of DNA sequences. I cut the processing time for a test sample from 10 hours to 84 minutes.I was in SF about 25% of the time. The rest of the time I worked remotely from Madison, Wisconsin.

Python consultant for Bank of America. I worked with financial reporting applications in the Jersey City, NJ branch of Bank of America. I also handled some recruiting for Monticello.

Wrote and tested Qt and C++ code for Human Machine Interface, using Visual Studio, ClearCase, ClearQuest, Qt Designer and proprietary interfaces.

Wrote, tested and maintained Python Django code used for web-based telecommunication applications. Used the LAMP (Linux, Apache (Django), MySQL, Python) environment to integrate recent acquisitions with legacy applications.

I wrote software for the Bruker AXS line of single crystal x-ray diffraction systems and maintained the code used for instrument commands, informatics structures for sample submission, and data manipulation and analysis. Key accomplishments included:• Led project with marketing and another programmer to develop user specifications and build Bruker’s first database for scientific data analysis. Created a user friendly interface and an XML mode to support further development of software that operates independently of the database. Wrote classroom materials and trained users. • Designed database tables and GUI wrappers and wrote the SQL to store data from the wrappers in the Bruker AXS database, making the best crystallography software available (written in FORTRAN code) useable by novice users while preserving features valued by power users. Eliminated need to run week-long training classes for customers.• Served as Lead Software Developer, closely collaborating with marketing, mechanical and structural engineers and the Oxford University Structural Genomics Consortium on the design and implementation of BruNoScreening, the second generation of a high throughput cryrogenic protein crystal screening system. • Designed the GUI as well as coding the informatics portion of the BruNoScreening system that tracks samples through the process, including experiments performed in other laboratories. • Designed a number of special tables to handle the data for the BruNoScreening system and effectively modified the interface between the automated system and Bruker’s database. • Set up a system to assist the user in correctly completing fields required for submission of up to 80 samples to a single workflow. • In collaboration with an application scientist and Oxford collaborator, developed a puck registration widget that improved the reliability of tracking the sample.
