ServiceNow is one of the worlds leading SaaS / PaaS providers with revenue of 1.4B in 2016. ServiceNow is a rapidly growing company with a continual requirement to add people, process and technology on a continual basis. I have responsibility for managing the 30 person security engineering and operations team for ServiceNow reporting directly to the ServiceNow CISO. This department has a budget of approximately 8M USD and has the following responsibilities:- Provides 24x7 incident response and monitoring for the entire customer and cloud environment. - Builds all security systems for the cloud environment and maintains these systems. - Provides security guidance to other teams on secure system design. I took over the engineering team in late 2015 as an eight person team with cultural and delivery issues. The operations team merged with engineering in mid 2016. During this time we: - Grew the engineering team back to its planned 13 people and reactivated and delivered many stalled programs. - Introduced engineering discipline in delivery and drove programs to completion as well as upgrading and modernizing existing systems. - Brought budgetary discipline as well as training programs to acquire new staff and develop existing staff. - Grew the operations team back to its planned numbers, including creating teams in each geography. - Moved the operations from basic incident response to a modern security operations team with incident response and proactive threat intelligence teams. - Created a culture of cooperation and support with large scale hiring and no loss of staff despite challenging marketing conditions. - Worked with ServiceNow product Business Units to expand ServiceNow's use of its own portfolio of security products.
