Authored process and training documents for recording engineering data into this central database for future use in technical reviews, internal and external customer data requests, and verification of vehicle design compliance with federal requirements. There was no corporate standard for cataloging vehicle dynamics and loads data which made it nearly impossible to review current and future vehicle designs for compliance issues, performance improvement opportunities, or vehicle capability. The time required to prepare to answer any design and compliance questions, either the formerly mentions or others, has been reduced by 100 times; meaning work tasks that previously took almost a full month of personnel hours can now be completed in under two hours instead. Investigate new and first-for-GM design opportunities to improve vehicle program performance with simulations and design of experiments by tuning existing hardware or applying prototype hardware. Analyze vehicle simulation data to identify performance opportunities for current and future Silverado, Tahoe, and Yukon designs; these studies have identified opportunities to calibrate vehicle performance improvements by as much as 20% with no new hardware development and investments necessary. -
Lead Vehicle Demand Energy EngineerFca Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Sep 2018 - Apr 2021London, England, GbLed team in delivering major program milestone sign offs and gateway technical reviews for vehicle hardware design and requirements. Grand Cherokee federal compliance requirements for weight and energy usage required engineering data to verify vehicle satisfied emissions and safety specifications outlined by EPA and NHTSA, respectively. Delegated design oversight for different aspects of vehicle design review to personnel under me, and weekly reviewed engineering report to ascertain vehicle gap-to-target.• Identified strategy for seating in Grand Cherokee L that set the six-person configuration as the vehicle standard (as opposed to the original seven-person configuration), which allowed vehicle design to comply with EPA and NHTSA requirements according to corporate emissions and safety targets at no additional cost. Original estimates to achieve compliance were over $25 million annually, but this strategy enabled vehicle to design to comply with corporate targets and federal requirements at no additional cost to the program. Negotiated with engineering teams to identify opportunities to optimize vehicle performance, comply with vehicle targets to achieve corporate strategy, while enabling engineering teams to satisfy their own internal cost and engineering metric targets. Identified design issues that required further investigation regarding potential erroneous engineering data and analyses provided by engineering teams. Authored and presented weekly reports to executives for the ongoing status of the new Grand Cherokee design, and all risks associated with engineering and technology problems. Coordinated investigation into potential solutions for risks to vehicle program satisfying the corporate targets for federal requirements. -
Vehicle Energy - Weight/ Mass Properties EngineerFord Motor Company Sep 2013 - Sep 2018Saved Ford Motor over $100 million annually on their CD6 platform by proposing a new-for-Ford mechanical integration between the vehicle chassis and body systems. Test and safety data of competitor vehicles showed improved structural performance for customer concerns, such as vehicle dynamics, and safety related performance (e.g., improving vehicle crash performance). Ford had previously installed a robust system of isolators and bushings in hopes of eliminating noise and vibrations experienced by drivers and passengers, but this had unknowingly decoupled structural benefits to safety and vehicle dynamics performance by greatly reducing synergies between the body and chassis structures working together. CD6 platform vehicles, like the current Ford Explorer, were able to increase structural performance by removing some dampers and isolators from front chassis-to-body mounting points; thereby allowing improvement for localized structural synergies by increasing the structural stiffness and dynamic phases in which the vehicle behaved. This enabled Ford Motor to optimize their structural hardware applications and investments due to the structural dynamic improvements of this chassis-to-body strategy.Lead personnel for designing and maintaining models and reporting systems that analyze mass property trends for both current and projected productsProvide data analytic results, reports, and presentations on derived and recorded mass properties to delineate vehicle design capabilities
