I am currently an Electrical Engineer at Marcum Engineering, LLC. in Paducah, Kentucky. I am responsible for the development and design of lighting, power, fire alarm, and data systems in new commercial and residential construction and renovation projects. I have experience working on projects in both Illinois and Kentucky, where each state has different code versions that are required to be complied with. I am a registered E.I.T. in the state of Kentucky and passed the P.E. exam in February of 2023, with the plan of applying for licensure in May of 2025. Lighting: For lighting design, I use Visual Lighting 2020 R2 to model the building and individual room heights to adequately provide spaces with a desired and standard average foot-candle level. I have experience specifying recessed, lay-in, suspended, and surface mounted fixtures for a variety of ceiling types and ceiling structures. I have experience in both line voltage and low voltage lighting control systems. Power: My power experience includes designing normal, emergency, and life safety distribution systems in a wide variety of low voltage systems (less than 1000 nominal volts). This would include sizing transformers, panels, grounding electrodes for the main and separately derived systems, and upsizing circuit conductors to account for voltage drop. For emergency and life safety systems, I have experience in sizing the generator, automatic transfer switches, and generator docking stations.Fire Alarm: With fire alarm, I have experience coordinating with the IBC and building occupancy and use group types to determine the type of system that is required. I have designed voice evacuation systems, systems that utilize automatic fire suppression devices, and systems that require an abundant amount of smoke and heat detectors for fire detection and recognition. Data: Most data systems are designed to the needs of the owner/customer. I have meetings with them on every project to determine the number of MDF/IDF racks required and what equipment those racks shall contain. My responsibility is to show the correct equipment requirements and create one-line diagrams showing the fiber interconnections between the MDF and IDF racks.
