Systems Engineer
While at Power Innovations, I advised and participated in the development, production, and maintenance during 2 contracts of Multiple Training Devices for an Aerospace contractor. As part of the Boeing team on our original contract, we were tasked with completing 5 Training Devices within 8 months. Another contractor had been under contract and defaulted because they could not meet the scheduled deadline. This innovative project, required that I define project scope, product conceptualization, ultimate goals, preliminary designs, material selection, created drawings, bill of materials, and 3D prototypes, all of which resulted in the final design, product tooling, and product manufacturing. We also identified additional resources, located, purchased, and refurbished used aircraft parts. Our use of SolidWorks, 3D printed parts, and finished replacement aircraft parts resulted in a cost saving of 240% for the client. I managed project expectations with team members and day to day operations. I prepared design reviews, analyzed project profitability, and managed budget as part of revenue models. The Training Devices were assembled, tested, disassembled, and re-assembled on a Naval Air Station. I lead the onsite assembly team with the installation of these 2,000 to 12,000 pound installations in locations with 14’ ceilings and on raised flooring which negated use of heavy lifting equipment. Special tools were designed to aid in the installation. These mock-ups were sections of aircraft used to give Navel personnel experience working on aircraft subsystems in controlled environments. As a result of our performance, we were awarded an additional contract that included 8 Training Devices and was installed in Australia.
