My college years have provided so much clarity on the life I want to live. I have come to realize that college provides far more than career opportunities after graduating, including opportunities to discover and pursue new and existing passions, gain valuable leadership experience, and develop lifelong relationships. The person I am today, is a summation of my experiences, and I want to provide a clear vision of the experiences that have facilitated my growth. My growth is primarily driven by a desire to maximize every opportunity. Many of these opportunities stem from club involvement. I have participated in meetings and events from fourteen different clubs on campus, participating in everything from the hockey and table tennis teams to business pitch competitions and Narcan administration training. In many of these clubs, I also hold formal and informal leadership positions. I have also joined Student Congress and have become a champion for student engagement in the classroom. My subsequent work with Student Congress has paved the way for a shared conversation between faculty and students on maximized learning in the classroom. I have now presented to faculty organizations from all over campus, in addition to students both at Oakland University, and student government representatives from other universities. Additionally, I have authored a Teaching Tips Blog which is now used as a teaching resource by student tutors on campus. Furthermore, I am the founder and event director for two annual events on campus, one for students, and one for faculty and staff. I am also driven to maximize additional learning opportunities outside my required classes. I took an eight hour class to get certified in Mental Health First Aid and have been working as the business lead for a Department of Energy funded marine energy project (Marine Energy Collegiate Competition or MECC), that placed third out of sixteen teams. This project has been particularly impactful as it has motivated me to pursue a career in renewable energy. I am incredibly proud of my experiences and am excited to continue growing with every additional opportunity I come across.
