*For over 20 years, Lance has been a classroom teacher and literacy coach/consultant in elementary, middle and secondary public schools in Atlanta and NYC. Having also spent 15 seasons at Morry’s Camp, he's an expert in youth development and how out-of-school time prepares youth for college, career, & life-long success. As an anti-racist educator, Lance leads DEI initiatives in schools and camps to develop healthy racial identity for teachers and leaders, and create culturally responsive learning environments for young people. *Currently a Sr. Education Consultant at Teaching Matters, Lance leads the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's Network for School Improvement (NSI) in 5 middle schools collaborating towards the common aim of equitable literacy proficiency. Lance was previously the Sr. Literacy Specialist at the Institute for Student Achievement, a division of the Educational Testing Service. At ISA he led a Carnegie Corporation pilot program to include growth mindset and non-cognitive skills in academic instruction. Lance has also been a consultant for Stanford University’s Center for Assessment, Learning and Equity (SCALE). *Lance's work has been published in several national publications, including the Journal of Youth Development, Democracy & Education, English Journal, Journal of Experiential Education, & over a dozen articles in Camping Magazine. Ozier’s keynote presentations & workshops have been featured at several national & international conferences, including Southern Cal. National Writing Project, Middle College High School National Consortium, National Summer Learning Association, Coalition of Essential Schools, National Council for Teachers of English, American Staff Development Council, American Camp Assoc, Southern Regional Education Board, the Beijing Academy Seminar in China, the Asian Development Bank education initiative in Kyrgyzstan, & summer/extended day academies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. *Lance holds a BA in Elementary Education from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, a MA in Sociology and Education, as well as his M.Ed and Ed.D in English Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. He has taught courses at Teachers College and Bank Street College, and since 2009 has been on the faculty at the City University of New York.
